Aquae Sulis – a brief history
of the people of Bath

This series is the result of many day trips by train to the English city of Bath from my current home in Weymouth. The photos were taken over the period 2013-2018, with a peak of productivity in 2015 and 2016. I lived in Bath for a few years in the late 1990s, and soon discovered the underground darkrooms at the Royal Photographic Society on Milsom Street. I spent many happy hours printing old negs but I didn't manage to take many decent photos of the city around me. Over a decade later, Bath seemed like an ideal place to revisit photographically, with its compact city centre, famous architecture, and the promise of legions of tourists and street entertainers. Above all, I always find it fascinating to photograph places where I used to live – a strange mixture of familiarity and the chance to make new discoveries through photography.
